Description:
This talk presents a world-leading AI infrastructure that is making 500 years of historical Spanish sources computationally readable for the first time. Built around the projects Digging into Early Colonial Mexico, Unlocking the Colonial Archive, and Fleets of New Spain, the programme uses script-specific Handwritten Text Recognition, deep-learning calligraphy classification, and LLM-based cleaning pipelines to automate transcription at national-archive scale.
