SUMMARY:IIT Delhi DHWS1 (2025): Computational Analysis of Texts
DESCRIPTION:The Digital Humanities Winter School (DHWS) 2025\, held between 17-22 February 2025\, was an initiative of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences\, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi)\, designed to provide humanities and social-science scholars with an accessible introduction to computational methods and digital scholarship. The inaugural edition was held from 17–22 February 2025 at the IIT Delhi campus and focused particularly on the computational analysis of texts\, including text mining\, sentiment analysis\, topic modelling\, data visualisation\, data acquisition\, cleaning and wrangling. \nThe Winter School combined an online Python Bootcamp with six days of in-person workshops\, lectures and discussions. Geoffrey Rockwell (University of Alberta\, Canada) and Dr. Shanmugapriya T (IIT (ISM) Dhanbad) led sessions on computational text analysis\, while other sessions covered data science and libraries\, digital art and data aggregation\, OpenRefine\, and OCR technologies for Indian-language scripts. Faculty also included Dr. Arjun Ghosh\, Sanil V.\, Naveen Thayyil and Dr. Vinayak Dasgupta from IIT Delhi\, Jajwalya Karajgikar from the University of Pennsylvania\, and Rohan Chauhan from the University of Delhi \nThe Winter School received more than 550 applications\, with a cohort of 25 participants representing different disciplines\, academic levels\, Indian states and languages. It concluded with participant presentations and a roundtable on “Digital Humanities@India: Opportunity and Challenges in the Time of AI”\, led by Santanu Chaudhury. The programme also marked World Mother Language Day\, foregrounding computational approaches to Indian-language texts and the use of IIT Delhi’s Lipikar OCR technology. \nDetailed information about DHWS 2025 can be found here.
